SUMMARY:Making Sense of Scientific Simulation Ensembles
DESCRIPTION:Poster\nTech Program Reg Pass, Exhibits Reg Pass\n\nMaking Sen
se of Scientific Simulation Ensembles\n\nDahshan, Polys\n\nScientists run
many simulations with varying initial conditions, known as "ensembles", to
understand the influence and relationships among multiple parameters or e
nsemble members. Most of the ensemble visualization and analysis approache
s and techniques focus on analyzing the relationships between either the e
nsemble members or output parameter space while neglecting the effect of i
nput parameters and humans in the analysis loop. Therefore, we developed a
n approach to the visual analysis of scientific data that merges human exp
ertise and intuition with machine learning and statistics allowing scienti
sts to explore, search, filter, and make sense of their high dimensional e
nsemble. Our tool, "GLEE" (Graphically-Linked Ensemble Explorer), is an i
nteractive visualization tool that consists of three visual views: Ensembl
e View, Parameter View, and Statistical View. Each view offers different f
unctionality for exploration and interoperation of the relations and corre
lations between different runs, a subset of runs, and input and output par
 ameters.
